RIZE WINS THE ISELIN

Rize wins The Grade II Philip H. Iselin Handicap in an upset over Sir Bear and the rest of the handicap field. In other action Delaware Township equaled the track record for six furlongs in a time of 1:07:4 in The Longfellow Stakes. See Stakes Review Page 7 for details of the weekends events. DIXIE UNION WINS HASKELL

In one of the more highly anticipated three year old races of the year, 41,630 race fans visited Monmouth Park to see the Haskell and by far the best day of racing to date at the Oceanport oval this summer. A full card of excellent stakes racing action was highlighted by The Grade III Eatontown Stakes and The Grade I Haskell Invitational. MATCH: Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred Championships

The MATCH Series is composed of 30 races in five divisions at seven different racetracks, with horses earning points to make their owners and trainers eligible for bonuses. Each division consists of six races in five categories: 3-year-old Sprint, 3-year-old Long-Dirt, 3-year-olds & up Sprint, fillies and mares Long-Turf and fillies and mares Sprint. The 2000 series started April 22 at Pimlico with the Federico Tesio Stakes and concludes October 7 with the championship finals in each division at the Meadowlands, Delaware Park and Colonial Downs.

There will be a total of $350,000 in divisional bonuses available this year ($70,000 per division), plus $150,000 to the overall MATCH Series champion. A horse must participate in at least three different races in its division in order to be eligible for bonus awards.

The MATCH stakes events scheduled to be run at Monmouth Park in 2000 are the $100,000 Jersey Shore Breeders' Cup Stakes (Gr. III) on June 24, the $100,000 Vinery Matchmaker Stakes (Gr. III) on July 2, the $75,000 Shrewsbury Stakes on July 2, the $75,000 Regret Stakes on July 4, the $100,000 Long Branch Breeders' Cup Stakes on July 16, the $75,000 Rumson Stakes on September 2 and the $75,000 Longfellow Handicap on August 27. The MATCH events to be run at the Meadowlands are the $100,000 Bergen County Stakes on October 7, the $150,000 Violet Handicap (Gr. III) on September 15 and the $100,000 Paterson Stakes on October 7.
